Another Tragedy

Fear pushes buttons,
pulls triggers,
and madness fills the air;
poisoning our minds,
eroding our souls,
destroying our lives.

Can we say —
or even hope —
that love
will find a way
the toxic cloud
and its deadly rain
of hate?

“Only You know, Lord,”
as the prophet said,
if these dried bones
and broken dreams
can live.

Our hearts cry out,
our spirits grieve,
our nation bleeds
from open wounds
of outrage,
and despair.

Only You know, Lord,
only You can say
if these weary bones
can stand.
