Like a Toothache

It is over
like a toothache —
good to be gone,
free of the pain

no longer real
but remembered

passing through
faintly glimpsed
like a ghost
on the stairs

not quite real
but remembered

a departed spirit,
an enemy no more,
disembodied,
disempowered

no longer real
but reconsidered

gone
not forgotten
released from suffering
relieved of responsibility

no longer real
but reimagined

free
from expectations
disappointment
resentment

no longer real
but released

what was
is no more
with gentle blessings
we let it go in peace.

About inklingscommunity

I am a struggling Christian, committed pacifist, near-obsessive recycler, incurable animal lover, inveterate tree-hugger; a nature mystic, a socialized introvert, an advocate for the vulnerable, an opponent of exploiters.
