911 Prayer

Bless the Holy One, O my soul,
and let all that I am be a blessing as I remember…

Let all that I am bless
the lives of those who perished,
the cleaning ladies and secretaries,
the sales clerks and security guards,
the analysts and accountants,
the window washers and first responders.

Let all that I am bless
those whose dreams died,
the wives and husbands and lovers,
mothers and fathers,
friends and family,
the dogs and cats
whose owners never came home.

Let all that I am bless
those who survive,
who live in that shadow:
with courage and conviction,
in pain and confusion,
in distress and outrage,
in grieving without end.

Let all that I am bless,
as a mother cares for her children
all those who carry that day
in their minds
in their bodies,
in their souls.

Bless them all, Gracious God,
comfort them
as we remember,
let them know
they are not forgotten,
let them know we bless their names.

Amen.
