In Times of Trouble…

Psalm 46 retold
Deborah Beach Giordano
© May 17, 2014

God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.

Therefore
we will not succumb to fear,
even if
our world is turned
upside down,
chaos reigns,
and darkness surrounds us.

~ Stop and think of that. ~

There is a river
whose streams refresh
the holy place
where God dwells
in our midst;
it will never go dry.

Be at peace,
wait and see:
things are always better
in the light
of the morning sun.

~ Stop and think of that. ~

People are upset,
life is in turmoil,
tension and stress
shakes our foundations;
all that is familiar
and known
crumbles;

God speaks:
all is calm.

~ Stop and think of that. ~

The Author of all goodness
is always with us;
the persistent, ever-faithful One
guards our lives.

Look at what God has done;
conflicts have ended,
relationships mended,
problems resolved,
peace growing stronger,
and hatred melting away.

~ Stop and think of that. ~

Stop and think
of God;
the almighty and all merciful,
from age to age the same;
compassionate and powerful,
the Eternal I-Am-With-You.

God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.

~ Stop and think of that. ~
