retold by Deborah
In the beginning, God created.
The earth was chaos and confusion; pure potentiality without form. Wisdom roiled the deep waters and light broke through the surface.
It shone upon all that was, bringing understanding and banishing nameless terrors.
And God saw the beauty of the Light and rejoiced; and Night, too, was given its rightful place.
Holy One, I seek You amid the chaos. You alone, Almighty Creator, can bring order to this swirling, spinning darkness; I am sinking into the Deep.
The deep: Tiamat, the name of the ancient goddess whose death brought forth life…. Am I slipping into life itself; immersed in the messy business of creation, surrounded by possibilities that I cannot see? Are You creating a new thing from within this confusion and fear?
All-Loving One, give me the faith, the courage, and the strength to persist throughout this dark night — and guide me safely into the light of the new glorious Day.
