the Presence of the Lord

While the disciples were talking about what had happened on the road to Emmaus, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” ~ Luke 24:36

When all seemed lost — their beloved rabbi murdered, their hopes destroyed, their lives in danger — Jesus came to the disciples. A presence so powerfully real that it could not be ignored or discounted as mere imagination, Christ was with them and blessed them.

The pattern repeats to this day. It is often in our time of greatest need, when we are feeling sad, alone, vulnerable, that the Lord is most powerfully present to us.
