Little dog, I thank you
for your sparkling eyes,
your silly grin,
your loyalty
and love.

Little dog, I thank you
for your patience
while I am gone,
your boundless delight
when I come home.

Little dog, I thank you
for your hours
of attention,
listening to my troubles
with sincere concern.

Little dog, I thank you
for teaching me
to be a better person
by watching you
be a good dog.

Little dog, I thank you
for your joy
in squeaky toys
and bouncing balls
and squirrels up in the tree.

Little dog, I thank you
for your delight in little things,
and helping me
to find happiness
in my own backyard.

Little dog, I thank you
for your peaceful presence,
your ability to relax
and snooze for hours
undisturbed.

Little dog, I thank you,
for sleeping on my bed,
I know there is no such thing
as being too close
to those you love.

Little dog, I thank you
for your faith
that I will always return
no matter how long
I am away.

Little dog, I thank you
for always being you
and always loving me
and I give thanks for every day
we spend together.

Little dog, I promise you
to be a loyal friend
never failing
whatever life
will bring.

Little dog,
the time will come
too soon – it always is –
when you will leave
and I must stay behind.

Little dog, I ask you
as you rest on
the soft blanket of heaven,
to once again
wait patiently for me.
