Psalm 7: My God, My Refuge

Deborah Beach Giordano
© August 25, 2011

O Lord, my God, I take refuge in you ….
at least I try to;
I try to rely on You,
to trust in You,
to sustain confident hope
in Your grace,
Your wisdom,
Your goodness,
Your perfect, boundless love…

Yet my faith falters
when tragedies and terrors
leap out like a lion,
ambushing the unwary,
the weak,
the innocent,
tearing them to pieces,
devouring their hope,
dragging them into despair
with no one to rescue them.

Stand up, O Lord,
and take their part;
lift up their hearts,
encourage their spirits,
and more than that –
change their lives;
bring them justice,
bring them peace
and health,
homes
and jobs:
bless them
tangibly,
materially,
clearly;

Show Yourself
that the whole world
will know
Your power,
authority,
and wisdom;

Make the plans
of the good prosper
and destroy the plots
of the evil;
sustain the righteous
and break the wills
of the wicked.

Is that really
too much to ask?
