Weather or Not

Weather or Not

inspired by Psalm 121

When

I lift up my eyes
I am comforted:
the blue sky
wispy clouds
a sparrow flock sails aloft
on the gentle breeze …
all is peaceful
and still.

Later

in the week
they are predicting
storms –
the birds will vanish
and heaven
will be darkened;
cold and damp
and threatening.

Then

I will shelter
indoors
and call upon
the God of the hearth:
the Source
of all that is safe
and warm
and dry.

While

in the garden
the frogs
will rasp out
hallelujahs,
and the thirsty grass
stretch forth its arms
in a silent song
of praise.

If

I ran the world
I’d run it
all wrong;
my paradise
would be
the cause
of another’s
despair.

So

let it rain
and hail
and sleet
and snow,
and let the sun
shine warm.

Wherever

we are
is where
God is,
no matter
when,
and
whatever
the weather.
