When we watch
in silent horror,
too shocked
to even cry –
there is prayer;

When there are no words,
no expressions,
no concepts –
there is prayer;

when devastation
is so complete,
and losses
so profound –
there is prayer;

when the tragedies
when disaster
follows disaster –
there is prayer;

when our hearts
ache with compassion,
when our souls
reach out in love –
that is prayer.
