John the Baptist

John the Baptist

Wading into the water
hunched over
under the weight
of a thousand
thousand sins
fingers wrinkled
like a washerwoman
toes stained
by riverbank mud;

a bird
a stranger
to the wetlands
but unseen
as pure as light;

a signal
the wait is over
the kingdom of God
has alighted
our world.

About inklingscommunity

I am a struggling Christian, committed pacifist, near-obsessive recycler, incurable animal lover, inveterate tree-hugger; a nature mystic, a socialized introvert, an advocate for the vulnerable, an opponent of exploiters.
