The Magi

The Magi

A messenger,
a dream,
a new light
in the heavens;

At its rising
a star-struck trio
travels afar,
bearing gifts
and hope.

Have their long hours
of careful watching
and patient waiting,
been rewarded
at last?

Can this be the sign,
a love-note from above
that their prayers
have been answered;
their hearts’ desire satisfied?

A dream
so long-delayed
as to have nearly
been forsaken;
given up for lost.

And now
a distant corner
of the too-familiar darkness
is suddenly aglow
with a heavenly light.

A celestial arrow
directing them
along the right path,
pointing the way
to a glorious blessing.

There can be
no turning back;
the die has been cast,
the course is set;
the adventure begins.
