The Leafless Tree

The Leafless Tree

The tree sprouts leaves,
buds become blossoms,
flowers fall
the colors change,
and one day
the branches are bare.

A season of rest,
a sabbath

for the orchard;
a sign
that we cannot

be fruitful
without stillness;
we cannot give

to others
if we do not

take time
for ourselves.

In silence
there is strength;
in peace

there is understanding;
in patience

there is growth.

About inklingscommunity

I am a struggling Christian, committed pacifist, near-obsessive recycler, incurable animal lover, inveterate tree-hugger; a nature mystic, a socialized introvert, an advocate for the vulnerable, an opponent of exploiters.
