Calling Upon the Eternal

Calling Upon the Eternal

Rise up, Glorious One,
Most Holy and Most Powerful;
stand beside me,
Valiant Warrior;
inspire my imagination,
sustain my courage
and strengthen my resolve.

As smoke is driven away,
drive my enemies away;
as wax melts in the fire,
let their power melt away.

And I shall rejoice,
giving thanks before God;
for the righteous are
Your pride and joy,
and I am one of
your favored children.

Father of orphans,
advocate for the poor,
protector of the vulnerable,
that is Who You are.

You give the lonely
a loving home;
You lead the imprisoned
to freedom;
but the wicked
live in a wasteland.

Most Powerful Redeemer,
you called forth Your people,
You led them safely
through dangers,
You fed them
when they were hungry,
You comforted them
when they were afraid.
Your love never failed.

At God’s command,
massive armies
of radiant angels
bearing flaming swords
bring justice to the earth;
their battle cries terrify
the wicked and unjust,
at the sight of them
evildoers falter and faint.

The Almighty scatters
the powerful,
and clears away
those who do harm.

Mountains envy
God’s regal splendor;
the oceans admire
God’s depth and breadth;
the sun is a pale ghost
beside God’s radiance.

Blessed be the Holy One,
who lifts us up each day;
God is our Sustainer,
our Protector,
our Lover,
and our Friend.

But God
will not suffer
our enemies
to prosper;
God will crush
their evil plots
and schemes.

The stars
circle the heavens;
an endless procession
proclaiming God’s grace.
You, O Eternal One,
are the Center of our Universe,
the Ruler of our Lives,
the Cause of all our joy.

Rise up, Glorious One,
Most Holy and Most Powerful;
with You beside me,
Valiant Warrior;
I will not be afraid.

Blessed is our Loving God,
let all that lives give
praise and thanksgiving
