Holy Christ, my Lord,
are You there,
O Refuge Against the Storm?

Lord, most holy Savior,
sustain us
against the rising troubles;

for there are times
when the days are long,
and the nights endless;

when anger
and outrage
gnaw at our hearts;

when loneliness
turns into desolation,
and grief becomes despair;

when, in shock
and confusion,
our thoughts turn against us,

eroding our courage,
deriding our faith,
mocking our every hope;

when we have
no more strength
to take another step

when the water is too deep
the current too strong
the river too wide

when there is
no bridge to cross,
no boatman to be found;

when we feel so all alone
beside the roaring torrent,
awash in salty tears.

Be with us, my Lord!
You who stilled the sea,
and quieted the winds.

Bring Your calming Grace
to the turbulence
that threatens to swallow us.

Rescue us, O my Lord –
from being devoured
by the monstrous deep!
