Isaiah 9:2-7

Isaiah 9:2-7

The people who stumbled in darkness
have been given a bright lamp;
those who dwelled in chill darkness
have felt radiant warmth.

The few are now the many –
and our joy increases daily.
It is as if we’ve won the lottery;
as if all our debts are paid,
and all of our worries

For the troubles that weighed us down,
the fears that disturbed our sleep,
the sins and shortcomings
that poisoned our lives
have been cast out.

It is as if we’ve been born anew:
fresh-faced and cheerful,
pure of heart
and hopeful of spirit.

For the hatred and greed and envy,
the violence and the anger
have been burned up into ashes.

For a Child was born for us –
a gift to us, who rules above all;
and he is called
Wonderful Counselor,
the Almighty,
Eternal Creator,
Prince of Peace.

As His reign expands,
there will be peace
forever and ever
for all people

It will be built upon
and lovingkindness,
beginning now
and lasting

This is what
God’s love for us
can do.
