God’s Voice

God’s Voice

I heard Your voice, Holy One;
not out loud or anything –
after all… I’m not crazy.

I didn’t exactly hear it,
or touch it,
or taste it,
or smell it,
or see it …
Not exactly.

But there was
Something.
Indescribable.
Undefinable.
But immensely,
intensely,
utterly Real.

It made me sit up
and take notice;
like waking up
from sleep.

Like hearing a familiar song
from childhood.

Or catching the scent
of a fragrance worn
by a loved one
long-departed.

Or a glimpse
of a bright colored bird
as it flashes through the trees.

A blink –
and you might have missed it.

Think too hard –
and you’ll doubt it happened.

But it was there.
It was something.
Something beautiful,
something meaningful;
more real than
reality itself.
