Black Friday

Bleak “Black Friday”

Beloved, it’s Christmastime
again.

The season dedicated to
shopping,
spending,
getting,
boozing,
over-eating,
and pretending —

pretending to be cheerful,
pretending to be hopeful,
pretending to enjoy
the crowds, the traffic, the noise;
pretending not to notice
the desperately unhappy people
pretending to be happy.

It makes me
sad
and anxious
and confused.

During this time
when You are
supposed to be nearest –
is when You seem
farthest away.

About inklingscommunity

I am a struggling Christian, committed pacifist, near-obsessive recycler, incurable animal lover, inveterate tree-hugger; a nature mystic, a socialized introvert, an advocate for the vulnerable, an opponent of exploiters.
