over the falls in a barrel

Sometimes trusting in the Lord
is like going over Niagara Falls
in a barrel.

All around the waters roar,
splashing, crashing, smashing,
an endless tumult.

The waves froth and foam,
vicious and erratic
as a rabid dog.

Twisting and swirling, tossed aloft
then dragged down into
the pitchdark depths

Jarred, jangling, shaken,
your little ark in constant
danger of splintering.

Loved ones watch anxiously
from the safety of the shore,
throwing out life-preserving prayers.

No earthly help can rescue you,
only God alone can save;
hold on, hold on, hold on.
